Don't use Daemon Tools as instructed ... MagicISO (search on here as it is a torrent) with MagicDisc (which is free) works brilliantly ... here:
1) When you have installed both applications above
2) Upon loading MagicDisc (bottom right task bar), right click it and select Virtual CD/DVD-ROM option (top option), then the driver letter (no disk will appear), then Mount ...
3) Browse to the file 'The Sims.mds', exit the install screen straight away if you wish to burn to disk
4) To burn to disk: Right click the MagicDisk icon again but this time select 'Make CD/DVD image' instead of the one you did in step 3
5) This should allow you to choose the source drive (which is the virtual drive you have just created (mounted). Choose ISO image as output format. Select a location to output to (via naming the ISO image) - Remember this is - Click OK to create the image.
6) Now use Magic ISO to burn the image to CD-ROM
Forgot to add this as never actually ran it (whoopsy). You do need a no cd crack to run the game if you have burnt it to disk. If you can't run it using daemon tools or magicdisk the also try burning to disk and then using the following NO CD CRACK:
Another problem. Don't know if this is because I burnt to CD without using a virtual drive is that the music doesn't install. So you have to simply open the created ISO image and extract the music folder and override to fix this issue
