“Blood On The Highway” is a CD. “Blood On The Highway” is a concept. But “Blood On The Highway” is so much more than that! It’s a story that begins a long time ago, when a young man dared to dream of becoming a rock-star. This dream consumed him….. Then he dared to try and live that dream by sacrificing everything….family, love, security…..and by ignoring the voices that said it couldn’t be done! The story takes us through the early days, the sacrifices, the risks he had to take and on into the crazy life he lived when his dream came true and he became an international star. Along the way, the music travels the same dynamic roads he travelled, from the beginning, in the back of a London pub and as the images flow, the lyrics tell the tale of gradual and eventual success. Travelling the world, money beyond his imagination, fame and a King’s fortune….until the trouble came. Maybe it began with the drugs to which he became addicted, maybe it was the egos or maybe it was when he began to believe that it was him who was turning the world! Whatever it was, the music somehow died. The relationships failed and he began to think but he couldn’t think straight and he didn’t think twice. Just as the success had become a magic carpet ride through the rock & roll universe, so the gradual failure became a reality that he couldn’t face, a reality he tried for a long time to ignore. He knew he was not alone in this. He watched his friends die because of it and he saw the money disappear. He wondered what had happened to all the people who said they loved him. But the question remained…what was he going to do? There was only one way out. He had done it and had it all. Miraculously, he had survived when so many others had not and he had to take what little he had left and start again. The world told him he was finished, that he was irrelevant, but the same determination that had once taken him from a childish dream to the top of the world would help him find the answer…the only answer. And he does find the way back….to an even better place! Yes, it may be the last dance but it’s not the last word! Listen and laugh, Listen and wonder, Listen and cry but……… Listen! Ken Hensley, 2007.
