Jessica Hilda Mauboy [born August 4th 1989 in Darwin, Northern Territory] is a singer and songwriter who was the runner-up on the fourth season of Australian Idol in 2006. She is also a former member of Australian multi-platinum selling girl group the Young Divas. Mauboys' father is of Timorese-Indonesian origin while her mother is of Indigenous Australian, Native American and English descent. At the age of 14 she won the Telstra Road to Tamworth competition, with the grand prize being a single recording contract with Sony BMG. In the summer of 2006, Jessica auditioned for the fourth season of Australian Idol in Alice Springs. Jessica cites Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson as her musical influences. Her debut album 'The Journey' contains recordings of all her live performances from her time in the top 12 contestants on Australian Idol. It was released on February 24th 2007 in Australia, reached No.4 in the Australian charts and was certified gold.
'Been Waiting' is the debut studio album by Australian singer and songwriter Jessica Mauboy released on November 22nd 2008. The album contains Mauboy's debut single 'Running Back' which features American rapper Flo Rida and second single 'Burn'. The album debuted at No.16 on the Australian Albums Chart, but recently peaked at No.11 and is currently sitting at No.18 in its tenth week.
